Pregnant Dog

Blessed are those people who understand that pets are family. Unfortunately, a large number of animal owners simply decide to get rid of their pets when they can’t or don’t want to take care for them any longer. That was the case with this adorable pregnant dog who was desperately waiting by the front door for her owners to come back, not knowing they left her behind. Luckily, a German woman called Costa Rica home and helped rescue this abandoned dog.

Tania Cappelluti, who has been teaching yoga in Costa Rica, helped establish Charlie’s Angels Animal Rescue Costa Rica (CAARCR) after she saw how many stray pets there were wandering around.

Recently, she received a message about the pregnant dog who was left behind from the family’s neighbor.

The dog was leaning against the house, her belly revealing that she was heavily pregnant and due to give birth any day.

“This is so unbelievable,” Tania wrote on Facebook on August 16. “I really don’t understand how people can do this to their dog.”

“They moved away and left their pregnant dog behind,” she continued. “No food or water. On her own, with a big belly. The poor girl is sitting now day and night in front of the door waiting for her people to come back home.”

The neighbor who contacted Tania was able to take care of the dog while she tried to find help, as she was back home in Germany at the time.

Fortunately for the pregnant dog – now named Marie – Wynn Mackey, one of CAARCR’s volunteers said he would help foster Marie.

Marie was made comfortable at his home and just 10 days later Marie gave birth to seven healthy puppies!

Marie was all smiles.

Now that Marie and her puppies are safe and healthy, CAARCR will be finding them forever homes. A happy ending for what could have gone the other way. “It’s incredible how fast things can change for a dog within the shortest time… for worse, but also for the better,” Tania wrote. “Marie is definitely in a much better place now.”
