Being a stray Homeless Dog on the streets is never easy because these poor creatures struggle to find food and a place to sleep every single day. This type of life is even more difficult for those dogs who used to live in a home surrounded by family, but for some reason ended up all alone.

Solo is a Homeless Dog who lives on the streets of Los Angeles. His every day is a fight against the harsh weather conditions and the people who want to hurt him. He is also at risk of being hit by a vehicle or being picked by the pound.

As Solo approached his 11th year of life surviving on the streets became almost impossible and even though he didn’t want to, he had to quit trying. As he wandered the streets, he fell asleep at the front porch of a house.

Luckily for him, it was the house of a woman who was aware that the dog was in desperate need of help. She was quite worried about Solo’s health so she decided to do her best to find him a place to stay. She contacted Rocket Dog Rescue who were willing to provide the necessary aid.

Once these rescuers reached the dog, they offered him the medical assistance and care he needed. But, the fate played cruel tricks on him so he ended up moving from one foster family to another. He was even adopted a couple of times, but eventually no one wanted to keep him for life. Maybe it was his age that drove away people from providing him with a permanent place.

But, one day Solo’s photo was noticed by Carol Messina who instantly felt drawn to him.

“As soon as I saw his face on their site, I wanted to love him.”

Carol was interested in adopting the dog so she called the rescue organization to learn more about the senior dog. His full name was Solovino, which stood for “he came alone” in Spanish but was also the name of the Star Wars character Carol was fond of.

“I immediately thought, ‘Well, his name is Solo!’ Come to find out, that’s what his foster dad had been calling him! I knew it was fate. Then when I met him and saw how sad he was, I knew he was going to stay with me forever no matter what.”

Carol opened the doors to her house and to her heart to the dog who was unfortunately still shy and afraid of people.

“When he first came to live with me, he kept his tail between his legs for months. He was very non-reactive to dogs and people and cats, and flinched any time anyone tried to pet him.”

As the two started bonding and Carol gained Solo’s trust she finally understood why he was rejected so many times before. It appeared the dog was deaf and his teeth were in a terrible condition. But after taking care of them, the pain was now gone and Solo could start living his life again.

“The people who live around us are always commenting on how he doesn’t even seem like the same dog anymore. He didn’t smile or barely open his mouth even to pant for months, and now he smiles and rolls around and will run full-tilt across the lawn a dozen times a day.”

Carol’s love and devotion for Solo are so deep that she came up with amazing solutions to deal with his condition of being deaf and older. She is planning on moving to a house without stairs so that Solo won’t have difficulties navigating around the place. Regarding his deafness, she equipped her new pup with a harness that announces he’s deaf so that people do not pet him without asking first. She also flicks the lights on and off when she enters a room so she doesn’t spook him.

Carol is a kind-hearted and generous woman who found inspiration in the life of Solo to adopt more senior dogs who are rejected by the world.

This is a truly inspirational story that proves every dog is worth saving. May God bless Carol and the people like her who have all the love for the strays.
