A woman who was battling with cancer and felt like she couldn’t fight any longer wanted to make sure her beloved dog would end up in the right hands after her death. The woman later identified by the police as the 46-year-old Crystal Chrisp was found at her apartment with a gunshot wound which they suspect was the cause of death. This was the second time that Chrisp battled cancer, after she cured the first time.

When her dog Shell was dropped at the Stray Rescue animal shelter of St.Louis, the staff took the dog in along with the handwritten letter that came with it, which left everyone confused and puzzled at first.

The letter explained the woman’s health issues and how she couldn’t take care of the sweet Shell any longer, so she was begging the animal shelter to take the dog in and do their best to find her a loving home. It’s both sad and admiring how the main concern of a woman who is spending her last days of life is the well-being of her dog after she passes away.

The dog first belonged to Chrisp’s mother who adopted it in 2009. However, she struggled with various health issues among which Alzheimer, and it was impossible for her to keep the dog, and that’s when Crystal decided to adopt it herself. Ever since, Shell became her best friend and her most loyal companion. She describes it as a sweet little girl who might have trust issues at the beginning, but once she gets comfortable with someone she is the most adorable creature to spend time with.

Crystal Chrisp, Shell’s previous owner, was 46 when she died.

Chrisp worked as a metro bus driver for 18 years and all her colleagues only have words of praise for her as a person. A co-worker named Sharon Hyster-Harris says, “She was my friend and I’m going to miss her. My heart is really aching right now for her. She was dealing with it a few years back and it went into remission. A few months ago it came back. I think she just decided she couldn’t deal with it anymore.”

Shell is in good hands now, with a new human taking care of him.

The Stray Rescue animal shelter posted an update about the Shell’s case on Instagram saying she now found her perfect home.

“We have a happy ending to Shell’s #tragic story. As most of you know, we received a #heartbreaking #letter on Monday. Shell came to Stray Rescue after her owner passed away. Then, a wonderful lady saw the news segment and knew it was time for her to adopt after losing her Stray Rescue dog Trenton, in July. She just felt so drawn to her. Wasting no time, she filled out an application and was here the very next #morning. The two of them hit it off and she knew it was definitely the right time. She says #Shell is already running the house, and that they are inseparable. We are honored to have fulfilled the final wish of her Mom, who is no longer with us. We promise she will be spoiled for the rest of her #life.”
