A 9-year-old American bulldog mix named Sugar has been living at the Humane Society of Greater Miami shelter for a total of 7 and a half years. Sugar first arrived at the shelter when she was just a year old in 2011, with her first owners claiming that Sugar was a gift to them and they didn’t have the time for her.

Sugar stayed for 2 months at the shelter before she was adopted, but returned a year later in June 2012. Her second owners stated that they had to surrender Sugar as they had “landlord issues”, which prevented them from keeping her. The staff at the Humane Society shelter hoped that Sugar would finally get her forever home when she was adopted just the very next day. Unfortunately, luck was not on Sugar’s side. After 3 and a half years, Sugar returned to the shelter once again as her third owners have become homeless.

Sugar spent another 2 years at the shelter before getting adopted again, but was surrendered just 3 months later, with her last owner claiming that she needed too much attention. The staff at the Humane Society already knew Sugar, as she had spent most of her life there. To Sugar, it seemed like the shelter was her permanent home, which was heartbreaking.

Like her namesake, Sugar has a sweet personality and loves to meet people. Even though a local home is ideal for Sugar, the Humane Society Of Greater Miami is willing to transport her to other parts of the country if they are sure that the home is suitable.

According to Jossie Aguirre, the director of marketing at the Humane Society of Greater Miami, Sugar needs to be the only animal in a house where she can get plenty of exercise outdoors. If you are interested in adopting this sweet girl, please contact the Humane Society Of Greater Miami.
