Georgina Milhet was out horseback riding with her nephew in the suburbs of Miami, Florida one day when they decided to turn down a dirt road that they have never been to before. As the barns and farms faded from view, the road became narrower and narrower. After some time, Milhet spotted a cage near the road and went to take a closer look. She was shocked to find a white husky trapped inside a crudely made chicken coop.

The husky noticed Milhet’s presence and started wagging her tail in delight. Milhet noticed the dog’s dehydrated state and quickly told her nephew to pass her a bottle of water. Milhet then got off the horse and gave the husky the water, which she quickly lapped up. The husky then attempted to crawl out of the cage and eventually got out with Milhet’s assistance. It was then that Milhet realized that something was wrong, the husky could not walk on her own and had to crawl on her elbows to move.

Milhet checked the husky’s legs, which were bent at odd angles and twisted. Although her nephew suggested to return with a car, Milhet refused to leave the husky there and decided to put her on the back of her horse instead. Milhet brought the husky home and named her Lucky.

At home, Lucky was groomed and given a much-needed bath. News about Lucky soon reached GTS Husky Rescue, a local animal rescue group, who brought her to a vet clinic the next day. At the vet, Lucky is estimated to be around 2 to 3 years old and had been likely surviving on her own without regular meals.

Lucky was also found to have severe deformities on her legs, which explained her inability to walk. Although Lucky needed help, vets refused to perform surgery on her legs as it would require too many surgeries and therefore would be too painful for her.

Lucky is currently recuperating at the GTS Husky Ranch, where she receives much-needed TLC from the volunteers. Once her health improves, she will receive 4 prosthetic legs specially tailored for her. With the assistance of her prosthetics, Lucky will finally be able to run and play for the first time in her life.
