When you fantasize about your wedding day, you’re dressed to the nines, hand in hand with your soulmate, and surrounded by the intoxicating energy of everyone you love the most. So why does that often exclude our sacred, most unconditionally adored creatures — our pets?

Posing with your hand ruffling your dog’s fur is the safe way to include your pet in your wedding photographs, but some animal lovers out there have brought things to the next level. Take notes on the incredibly creative ways these people worked their furbabies into their special days…

1. When the priest said the “speak now or forever hold your peace” line, he wasn’t actually asking for barked objections, Buster. Though, they do say dogs love us more than we will ever know…

2. The caterers forgot to set up a third place setting at the sweetheart table, so these three lovebirds had to improvise. Next, they let him cut the cake, a messy affair given that he had no opposable thumbs.

3. Since these two donkeys were in attendance, no one had to worry about being labeled the reception’s biggest… well, you know. Here’s hoping neither the bride nor the groom got kicked during this photo shoot.

4. Carrying the rings calls for a dependable guy, and no one has ever looked so focused. Sand, sleet, or snow, that handsome boy would paw through it all for mom and dad. Here’s hoping he was properly rewarded with a treat!

5. “Okay, let’s get married on three. One..two…” All paws in for gathering together in the name of love. This photographer had a creative take on the traditional ring shot!

6. Fancy with a capital F for this fine fluffy fellow. A well-dressed pooch can absolutely be incorporated into a formal ceremony, and this trio pulled it off flawlessly. And to think, that pooch was worried the hat made his head look small.

7. An elephant never forgets, so they would surely cherish an invite to any wedding ceremony. On the same token, the guests will always remember the pachyderm in the room. There better be enough food available at the reception!

8. Wagons: for when your ring bearer is easily distracted. Smiling big for pictures was a strength for the peanut-sized Yorkie, but sneaking off with the rings, not so much.

9. Dogs are a dime a dozen walking down the aisle, but cats can hang too. This curvy guy slapped on a bow tie for the church and played it cool so his parents could have their moment in the spotlight.

10. “Florals? For a wedding? Groundbreaking.” This lazy pup could barely contain his eye roll, but clearly, he loved the attention. They probably told him he could eat his wreath when the ceremony was over.

11. You can’t choose your relatives but you can choose your ring bearer, and this couple chose… a llama. It’s a quirky idea, but the llama looks more polite than half the dogs on this list.

12. The kids can’t contain their smiles for mom and dad’s big day. Well, these sweet doggies might not actually know what a wedding is, but everyone is smelling nice, very happy, and generous with the pets — a great day indeed.

13. The standard “bride, groom, and baby” snuggle snapshot is a classic for a reason — it’s so darn cute. Expert tip: it works best if your dog has expressive eyebrows and very, very soft looking ears.

14. Instead of waiting for your fidgety fur pal to pose for a picture, reverse the roles and have them do the camera leg work. Guaranteed the ceremony will look totally different from the puppy’s perspective.

15. “Mom, who the heck are all my new friends?” Receptions are a time to let loose and celebrate, and who makes people more comfortable than their dogs?

Give It Love

16. Wasn’t that wedding a hoot? The owl had something to do with it, but he can’t take all the credit. The couple of honor winged it when they included an exotic animal in their photos but for uniqueness’ sake. And it paid off!

17. Not everyone can be present for the nuptials, though based on how well behaved these cats are posing for their pictures, they could’ve occupied a quiet table in the back with the out-of-town cousins.

18. To ensure you make it down the aisle, have your furry pal escort you along the way. But do take them for a potty walk first to avoid any accidents. Pee breaks halfway down the aisle? So unchic.

19. Nothing cute here, just some tough guys acting like men. Certainly, a loyal dog sweetheart isn’t breaking any hearts. No, you’re crying! Most humans could take a page from this doggo’s book on how to look elegant at any gathering.

20. Someone knows they’re breathtaking, and they are leaning into it! How the guests at this wedding had eyes for anyone but this floppy-suited rascal is a true mystery. The bride was probably jealous!

21. Getting your kitties to cooperate for wedding photos can be a challenge. If your fluffball can’t last through a hectic ceremony, any old picture you can snag in your fancy duds will make a lasting memory.

22. Forget asking for a father’s permission, the real priority is getting the pet’s stamp of approval. This pup was very pleased to welcome a new parent to the family.

23. Who gave these blonde bombshells the permission to be so precious? Even if they hadn’t planned on including their pup, the photographer couldn’t miss a chance to capture their corresponding golden waves.

24. Love comes in all shapes and forms. Exchanging rings, making vows, and back roll scratches are a few excellent ones. This pug also made sure to write in some vows of her own, which included plenty of treats.

25. The idea of a picturesque outdoor wedding conjures images of songbirds chirping. When you have your own bird and can trust they won’t head for the skies, featuring them in your photos is a must.

26. Not all the bling has to be on the ring. Try adding some sparkle to your dog’s ensemble, particularly if they are as dashing as this charming chihuahua. All that’s missing is an equally blinged out tophat!

27. The groomsman with the tail is best suited in a coat and tails. Make sure if your dog is part of the wedding festivities that his bangs are out of his eyes for the pictures. Let them see those beautiful peepers!

28. Not all venues are pet friendly, but there are countless ways to include your whiskered family members in the wedding celebration. Consider a customized cake topper modeled after your cats.

29. Luckily this kitty wore proper identification. Otherwise, she could be confused for just another average feline guest, and one look at her face alone is enough to tell you that wouldn’t fly for this diva!

30. Pet people need to look out for one another. In lieu of monogrammed chalky candies or personalized mason jars, the purrfect favor is a doggie bag for the doggies who had to stay home.

31. Before you may kiss the bride, you have to share some smooches with your pooches. Judging from the grin on the bride’s face, she didn’t mind sharing. Love a bride, love her dog!

32. “Oh am I not supposed to wear white to a wedding? My bad.” A stunner like this dog doesn’t follow the rules; she breaks them and looks great doing it. The bride had some adorable competition.

33. The Goodest Boy arrived at the ceremony, and he remembered to pack all his charm. The cuffs send this dapper doggo over the edge into heart melting territory. He looks happier than the bride’s parents!

34. Even on the wedding day, the dogs still need a walk. Sneaking away with your sweetie, and the photographer, for a private family moment can create an intimate portrait you’ll cherish for decades.

35. Pretty sure this breed is called a trendsetter. If there’s any special info the bride and groom want their guests to remember, putting it on a sign around their pet is a clever way to guarantee everyone gets the message.

36. Two of the most glamorous things this bride owns all in one photo. The shoes are stunning, but her best accessory will always be her pocket-sized pooch… who is doing his best not to eat those shoes for lunch!

37. “Ready? One..two..three!” The whole family woke up cheesin’ for the camera on this wedding day. By the looks of their happy family, they have years of smiling ahead of them.

38. First, you have the best man; then, of course, man’s best friend in the groomsman lineup. Truth be told, he was a bit hurt to be left out of the bachelor party planning.

39. We have gathered here today to witness the union of these two french bulldogs. Oh…and for a human wedding, too. But, mostly for the dogs. I mean, have you seen their little smiles? Come on!

40. Sitting pretty with her kitty. Holding hands, gazing into each other’s eyes, makes it seem like they’re the ones getting married. Really, it’s incredible this cat-loving bride avoided claw snags to her gown.

41. May I have this dance? Every woman dreams of the first waltz and her wedding, but not every woman dreams of that first waltz being with their canine best friend and that’s what makes this couple so darn sweet.
