Two Kayakers Hear The Whining Of Puppies Coming From A Potato Sack Thrown In The River

What was supposed to be a day filled with fun for two kayakers on the Blackstone River in Massachusetts turned into something they will never forget. As they were casually kayaking, a loud whimpering caught their attention. It resembled puppies’ cries, and the moment they noticed a moving potato sack in the river they knew it had dogs inside.

They rushed to take the sack out of the water, and when they opened it, they saw six helpless puppies huddled together.

The kayakers were horrified by the sight as they didn’t want to believe there could be people so cruel out there as to dump babies to die just like that.

Soon after, they contacted animal services that came at the scene along with officers from the Uxbridge Police who shared the photo of the puppies on their Facebook page, writing:

“Earlier today, six puppies were found by a kayaker. These puppies were tied up in a grain bag and left for dead after being dumped in the river near River Rd. If you have any information that could lead us to the low life that could commit such a heinous act, contact Officer Benjamin Smoot at Uxbridge PD. Uxbridge Animal Control Officer responded to the scene and took possession of the puppies. They are all doing well, considering the circumstances, and we believe they will all survive. The puppies are currently being kept together, and are being cared for by a professional until they are able to be adopted.”

In a matter of hours, the story of the abandoned puppies was all over the news.

The members of the community were more than willing to help the one-week-old puppies survive and have a decent life. This made the Uxbridge Police Department share another post on Facebook, thanking the kind citizens.

“We are overwhelmed by the responses with regards to the puppies found yesterday. We have such a caring and great community and we appreciate everyone’s outpouring support and concern for the puppies. If anyone has any information please contact our Police Department any time and we will have you speak with one of our Detectives. If you are looking to provide a monetary donation to help, you can certainly send a check to our “Uxbridge Regional Animal Control Gift Account” at 275 Douglas Street, Uxbridge MA. We would like to remind everyone to please consider the many many dogs looking for loving homes in the many area shelters here locally and beyond.”

Although we would desperately want to see the person who threw those puppies behind bars, the most important thing for now is that the puppies are doing great.
