When a stray dog is pregnant, the odds are grim.
Many are unable to care for their puppies — or even themselves — and tragically, most don’t survive long enough to give birth.
But this story is different.
There are roughly 50-70 million feral cats in the US and as many as 8 million stray dogs. Those numbers are increasing every year.

Not every shelter takes in pregnant dogs, and many of these moms are the hardest to rehome. But there are individuals and organizations dedicated to giving these dogs a second chance.
