Lola had a unique black-and-white face that reminded Antonucci of the bull terrier mixes she had growing up. Antonucci immediately felt a connection to Lola. And so, in July 2018, she decided to go meet Lola in person at Second Chance Animal Rescue in Melbourne, Australia.

When Antonucci got to the animal rescue, she learned more about Lola’s background.

Lola was only seven months old, but she had already been through two homes. She had first been adopted by a teenager who quickly surrendered her to a shelter. Then, she was adopted by another first-time dog owner who had underestimated how much work owning a dog would be.

Antonucci and Lola quickly bonded, and Antonucci decided to officially adopt the pup. Lola was so happy to finally have a forever home!

On Lola’s first night in her new home, she climbed onto Antonucci’s lap and wouldn’t stop hugging her. The sweet girl wanted to show her new mom how grateful she was to have a forever home.

“The first night I brought her home, she just lay on top of me for hours just hugging me,” Antonucci told The Dodo. “I was surprised how quickly she warmed up to me as I had only really spent the drive home with her at that point.”

Since Lola’s first few months were so tough, she did have a few behavioral issues. She would frequently dig under the fence in Antonucci’s backyard, and Antonucci realized she was trying to get into the neighbor’s backyard to play with their dog. But after Antonucci told Lola no a few times, she stopped the digging.

Lola has now been with Antonucci for about six months, and she’s doing great!

Lola is learning all sorts of new tricks, including how to play fetch in the dark. Lola is as smart as can be!

“The highlight of my day is just coming home and spending time with her,” Antonucci said. “She really does hold a special place in my heart.”

Antonucci also quickly realized that Lola is a very social dog, and she knew she would love to have a dog sibling.

In November 2018, Antonucci adopted another dog—a two-month-old Leonberger named Lenny. Lola and Lenny fell in love with each other immediately, and Antonucci was so happy to see how well they got along.

When Lola arrived at Antonucci’s home, she was a nervous dog who had already been abandoned twice in her short life. Now, Lola is a happy pup with a mom who loves her and a new little brother. This sweet dog has found the perfect forever home!
