These poor dogs were left behind…A volunteer with Dream Fetchers: Project Rescue named Allen Boartfield received terrible news last weekend. She was told that two small dogs were found in a crate together just beside bags of trash at a curbside in Barstow, California. Boartfield said that she got notified about the dogs at about 8 a.m and was told that she could not miss them. Apparently, the dogs’ owner had been evicted from her house. Once she left the house, she carelessly forgot about her two dogs, who had been put into a crate together and left by the curbside.

Boartfield quickly responded to the call and drove to the location. Indeed, there was a crate with two dogs in it by the curbside. The two dogs, Catch and Treasure, were found scared and both were extremely cautious of strangers. So much so that Catch did not hesitate to nip at Boartfield and didn’t want to leave Treasure alone by herself.

The dogs were then immediately taken to Camino Pet Hospital in Irvine, California There, the dogs were thoroughly examined. According to Hedy Herold, the rescue coordinator for the hospital, Treasure was so matted that she couldn’t move without pain and she was snapping at our technicians who wanted to help her.

The dogs huddled together a lot. But Catch soon caught a cold, so he was required to be put in isolation for treatment. As a result, they had to be separated. A few days later, Treasure was ready to bathe and get spayed. Treasure has warmed up to the staff and is recovering well both physically and mentally. But Catch still has not and doesn’t accept pets from the staff. The staff hopes that Catch will open up soon so that both dogs can be re-homed into their forever homes.
