It is well-known that a dog is a man’s best friend. One of the virtues dogs are known for is perhaps, their unwavering loyalty – especially to the ones they love. However, not all would learn to truly appreciate that virtue, neither would they understand how devastating it will be for the dog if it is suddenly abandoned. One loyal dog had unfortunately, faced disloyalty and a betrayal of trust when his former owner casually dropped him off on a sidewalk in Moscow. Plus, he had told the dog to “stay.” Little did this dog know, his owner would never come back for him, and for good. This led the dog to be extremely depressed, but he was still waiting even after one week!
One passerby, Elena Kniazeva, managed to persuade the dog to move from its usual waiting spot and all the way to an animal shelter where he would be cleaned, fed and cared for. Renamed Luke at the shelter, the dog was apprehensive at first. Soon enough, Luke started to come around – and was actually a very sweet dog who loves to make friends!
However, one of Luke’s new friends, Dennis, had a story which was even more tragic than his. Originally found by his mother’s side and siblings at a construction site, someone had cruelly sliced off his mother’s ears. Plus, one of his siblings was also found dead. Dennis had sustained a leg injury, which was healed well afterwards thanks to quick medical aid.
With Dennis’s leg injury and Luke’s heartbreaking history, the two dogs soon found solace in each other, forged a beautiful bond of friendship. Little did the two canines know that they would soon set off to Toronto, Canada, together in order to find their forever homes.
Cause 4 Paws Toronto was gracious enough to accept them, and offered to place both dogs in a foster-to-adopt program – this would ensure that the two would find true happiness in their new lives, in a new home. Although both Dennis and Luke are at least 4,600 miles away from Russia, it was a golden opportunity for them both to be loved again.
Cause 4 Paws was determined to raise the money the two dogs would need in order to for their travel expenses, through a GoFundMe campaign they have personally created. It was a success, and the two dogs soon arrived and settled down in Canada safely.
As of today, Luke and Dennis are currently awaiting their new homes – in Canada!
